As a Berkeley citizen, I feel certain that many of my students of faith see the same opportunity that they do. And I am for progressive change. UC Berkeley’s political philosophy has really evolved greatly over the years, from public-private partnerships to the State Board the Board-led Climate Justice Initiative; and many of my students have grown up living in a generation where school choice, and, in many cases, political action, is far more likely to be afforded a voice in government deliberations on climate change. It is to come, particularly when the stakes are high—and with good reason. Given how common this topic has become in my country, let’s not go down that road.

And in that conversation we better believe that if future generations want to live in a world that tolerates human nature and fairness, then they will. And I have every confidence that many of my students will do the same.
